Assoutenti: “Returning to Puglia by car becomes a gap of up to 411 euros”

FOGGIA – Italian vacations have a hidden cost, especially for those who decide to drive to places south of this long, narrow “boot”: fuel.

And who would decide to travel by car to reach holiday resorts these days will have to face the “drainage” between refueling costs and tollsAssouenti, who conducted a survey of some typical summer routes, says he compared the cost of traveling by car to that of the train.

Yesterday, according to the latest official data from the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, gasoline cost an average of 1,851 euros per liter, which is 4.7% cheaper than the average price of August 2023 (1,942 euros/liter). Assoutenti costs about 4.5 euros at full strength.

Diesel, on average, cost 1,730 euros per liter, which is -5.6% compared to August last year, and less than 5 euros per tank.

However, fuel-related costs to cover some typical summer holiday routes by car remain very high: for example, the 1,588 km distance between Turin and Palermo costs an average of €392 in petrol round trip. To this should be added €175.6 tolls for a total of €567.6.

The total cost to reach Reggio Calabria from Turin is 491 euros (336 euros for petrol, 155 euros toll), 462 euros from Milan to Catania, Bolzano to Lecce €411.

It is cheaper to go to Cosenza starting from Rome: 128 euros of petrol and 35.8 euros of tolls are enough.

Assoutenti says that train ticket prices have increased by +8.3% last month compared to the previous year, but you can save as long as you want to travel and deal with changes and connections.

For example, anyone who bought a ticket for the Milan-Salerno route yesterday (departure on August 24, return on August 31) would have spent at least €100 per passenger if there were no special requirements regarding the train schedule and type. but you can earn up to €426 by choosing the best links.

On the same dates, a ticket for a Milan-Catania trip starts from a minimum of 284.9 euros and reaches 372 euros. The price of the Turin-Reggio Calabria route is from 269.7 euros to 321.9 euros, from Turin to Palermo from 164.25 euros to 355 euros.
